AT CITY VARIETIES
Here at City Varieties Music Hall you can join us on a tour around the theatre and absorb our fascinating history. From a music room above a pub, to the home of the world-famous ‘The Good Old Days’, the City Varieties has welcomed the best comedians, musicians and performers for more than 150 years.
What was once a rowdy music hall packed to the gunnels is now a glamorous and legendary venue that is a favourite with many of our performers and visitors, and for good reason.
Soak up the rich atmosphere of our beautiful auditorium that has been restored to its Victorian splendour, observe a selection of original artefacts and hear tales of the weird and wonderful acts that have graced our stage.
These tours are a fantastic opportunity to experience first-hand a rare surviving example of a working Victorian Music Hall.
“Steeped in history … still regarded as the best venue for stand-up in the nation.” – Dara O’Briain ('Tickling The English' published by Penguin Books)
Tours last 1hr and cost £5 per adult and £3 for under 18s (under 5s free but must have a ticket). Tickets must be booked in advance. Please note that as the City Varieties is a working building, access is not always available to all areas.
