The ongoing campaign to raise £1.3m to complete the funding for the refurbishment for City Varieties will continue from a temporary office at 24 Eastgate in Leeds city centre, while the construction work at the theatre begins.
Some of the architectural plans for the much improved building will be on display in the window alongside an example of the all new seating which is due to be installed. The office is just along the street from The Friends of City Varieties' shop at 28 Eastgate which is raising funds towards the refurbishment
Gorden Kaye (as Rene from 'Allo 'Allo) has officially opened the Friends of City Varieties' charity shop at 28 Eastgate Leeds.
The store trades from 10am to 5pm, Mon to Sat - pop along to bag a bargain or donate your quality unwanted items.
City Varieties' legend, Danny La Rue, died late on Sunday night May 31st, following a short illness and the stroke he suffered in 2006.
His appearances at the Good Old Days have been enjoyed by the people of Leeds for decades and his talent will be sorely missed.

The City Varieties Music Hall has now closed for public performances, to allow for a £9.2million refurbishment, funded by Leeds City Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and monies raised by Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera House Limited and The Friends of City Varieties.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has signalled its support for our refurbishment project by awarding the bid by Leeds City Council just over £2.7m.
This award guarantees the future of the £9.2m refurbishment project and allows work to commence as planned in April 2009.
The City Varieties will close in mid January 2009 and is due to reopen in the Autumn of 2010.
